Evidence-based Practice and Effective Policy
Providing access for public health practitioners to evidence-based information and recommendations is critical to promoting evidence-based practice. The speakers in this presentation will discuss not only the challenges of determining what studies and information are applicable to the field but also specific criteria pracitioners can use to evaluate current studies. In addition, speakers will present specific tools and resources designed to help practitioners gain evidence-based information. The promotion of evidence-based practice has important implications for public health and health education efforts.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe challenges in identifying medical and public health evidence that is applicable to health promotion practice;
  2. Discuss criteria practitioners can use to determine the applicability of study results to their work setting; and
  3. Identify current resources for providing evidence-based information to public health practitioners.
