Innovative Evidence-based Intervention Programs

Many sessions sponsored by the Caucus on Refugee and Immigrant Health describe the special health risks and needs experienced by refugee and immigrant populations, and the social, cultural and institutional barriers that limit these populations’ access to health education and health care. This session will be devoted to presentations that describe innovative, evidence-based programs and policies to overcome barriers and address needs. Speakers will discuss the special concerns that led to the development of particular programs, as well as criteria for evaluating the success of interventions.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to 1. describe key elements of innovative programs that address health education and health care needs of refugee and immigrant populations; 2. list strategies to integrate culture in development of successful health interventions for refugee and immigrant populations; 3. list criteria important in the evaluation of evidence-based interventions for refugee and immigrant populations.
