How is the nation progressing toward the national Healthy People 2010 goals and objectvies? The Healthy People 2010 Midcourse Review is being produced to assess progress toward the Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives at the midpoint of the decade. The Midcourse Review offers an opportunity to: assess progress toward Healthy People 2010's overarching goals (i.e., increase quality and years of healthy life, and eliminate health disparities); articulate the degree to which the gaps in health disparities are closing or widening; reveal those developmental objectives for which data are now available and which have been eliminated for lack of a data source; identify objectives that have met their targets and reveal areas that are facing challenges in meeting their targets; and explore strategies and opportunities for acheiving the goals for the decade. This session will address the status of progress toward Healthy People's two overarching goals, objectives, and targets. The Midcourse Review process and development will be addressed in detail. The revised objectives, target adjustments, and the impact of these changes to Healthy People 2010 will be highlighted.
