This presentation examines how different types of health research knowledge and diverse institutional arrangements can contribute to policy making for local communities using, the RARE methodology. We present approaches for disseminating information among policy makers and political leadership. We also describe approaches to providing evidence to assist political leadership and policy makers to identify and refocus priorities to address community youth HIV needs. We describe a three-way interaction between the Community, Academia and Policy makers for the purpose of designing policy and programs to address community youth HIV needs The importance of interactions across interfaces between minority researchers and policy makers is identified in this presentation.

We emphasize the importance of building capacity for academicians to tailor their research to the needs of policy makers and assist policy makers to utilize research findings to develop policy and program for community intervention.

1. Identify mechanisms and networks to facilitate the use of minority health research for policy making at the local community level.
