Smallpox … Anthrax … SARS … West Nile Virus … Pandemic Influenza. Today's headlines are filled with new challenges for public health practitioners. Threats of bioterrorism and emerging infectious diseases have brought new focus to the area of workforce development and the need to strengthen the public health infrastructure. Funded in July 2002, the Emory Center for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) partners with the Georgia Division of Public Health, DeKalb County Advanced Practice Center, East Central Health District Advanced Practice Center, Southeastern Center for Emerging Biologic Threats, and the Rollins Center for Public Health Preparedness and Research to address the preparedness training and education needs of the public health workforce in Georgia. Using state-of-the-art instructional design and delivery, the Emory CPHP develops CD-ROM and web-based preparedness training materials. A multidisciplinary team of content experts, instructional designers and multimedia developers partners closely with training and preparedness staff at the Georgia Division of Public Health to ensure that all training materials are consistent with the Division's views, policies, and procedures. This presentation will discuss the collaborative development process used by the Emory CPHP as well as the challenges of evaluating multimedia training materials.
