Quality monitoring with hand-held computers

Advances in PDA and tablet PC technologies and improvements in handwriting recognition and conversion software enable health care providers to conduct truly paperless quality assurance and performance reviews. This presentation illustrates several applications for PDAs and tablet PCs in public health settings including:Performance monitoring, Quality assurance monitoring,and Accreditation/licensure reviews.

Live demonstrations of several applications will be integrated into the presentation. Issues to consider in the integration of mobile computing systems with legacy systems will be discussed. Data sharing, security and communications will be addressed. Methodologies for estimating the benefits and potential cost savings of various applications will be presented.
