RTI International* is an independent, nonprofit institute dedicated to conducting research and development that improves the human condition. With a staff of more than 2,500 people, RTI provides innovative research and technical solutions to governments and businesses worldwide. Our clients include nearly every branch of the federal government and more than 60 other private companies and public sector agencies.

Our ongoing research and services in health focus on the following areas:
• Public Health. RTI's areas of expertise include obesity, oral health, violence issues, tobacco use, HIV/AIDS, mental health, diabetes, maternal and child health, substance/alcohol abuse, and community health. We implement community programs to address these issues and disseminate health services through program assessment and evaluation.
• Global Health. RTI is committed to improving global health through collaboration and partnerships with individuals and organizations, government agencies, stakeholders, private foundations, and others around the world for three decades. We apply research and practical experience to strengthen health policies and design better programs, and focus on building local capacity with emphasis on community and stakeholder involvement and public-private partnerships. We are committed to ensuring the scalability, replicability, and sustainability of programs, and to designing programs that are appropriate for a given country and its people.
• Epidemiology and the Environment. RTI works to understand the importance of the environment on human health by measuring environmental contaminants, developing registries of persons exposed to toxic agents, and developing patented personal monitoring devices for real-time dosimetry.
• Program for Health Security and Systems Research. Our research focuses on public health preparedness in public health systems, health care systems, public health program evaluations, environmental monitoring and surveillance, criminal justice, food-borne diseases, and zoonotic diseases.

Our areas of expertise include:
• Statistics Research. With more than 150 statisticians, RTI is expert in biostatistics, survey statistics, and statistical analysis in areas of public health, health care, environment, energy, homeland security, education, and global health. Our statistical design and analysis expertise includes nonresponse minimization strategies, multiple frames methodologies, mixed-mode design, new data quality improvement methods, and international and culturally sensitive designs. We have knowledge in general statistical programming and study design; analysis and results interpretation; data privacy; bioinformatics; data coordinating centers; analysis, visualization, and reporting; and SAS applications.
• Survey Research. RTI provides its clients with a full range of survey data collection services including study design; instrument development and evaluation; pretest and pilot studies; tracing subjects; face-to-face, field, telephone, mail, and computer-assisted interviewing; web-based interviewing; data management and mixed-mode surveys; collection of biological specimens; focus groups; records abstraction; and health registries. The wide scope of our survey research capabilities allows us to meet any data collection need, to maintain control over the quality of our work, and to assemble efficient and effective project teams.
• Research Computing. RTI applies innovative computer technology and software applications to statistics, health, and social research, as well as support for collecting, processing, managing, and analyzing data. RTI staff are proficient in using many programming languages, as well as commercial and RTI-developed software tools. We use in-house, networked minicomputers and PCs, in addition to client-supplied and other computer facilities, to support our diverse projects.

To extend our expertise in public health research and services, RTI offers two distinct enterprise-wide alliances:
• SAS. A strategic corporate agreement that provides software, services, and training to RTI employees and clients and supports joint business development activities.
• SPSS. A strategic partnership that focuses on providing cost-effective solutions to government and business worldwide.
