Steps to a HealthierUS
This session will discuss the latest developments in the U.S Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) efforts to combat the most costly chronic diseases the nation faces today-obesity, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, stroke, and cancer Panelists will update the participants on the Department's Steps to a HealthierUS initiative and highlight local and community disease prevention and health promotion efforts. The moderator will provide an overview of the full range of HHS prevention activities, including the Steps to a HealthierUS community grants program, the HHS Secretary's Innovation in Prevention awards, with panelists addressing the Diabetes Detection Initiative, the Healthy Lifestyles & Disease Prevention campaign, and AOA's You Can! campaign.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to: 1. List the risk factors for type 2 diabetes. 2. Develop at least one community-level intervention for diabetes prevention. 3. Recognize the value of multisector collaboration in developing > successful interventions at the community level.
