3340.0: Monday, November 8, 2004: 4:30 PM-6:00 PM
Oral
Current Activities in Community-Based Primary Health Care
Community-based primary health care (CBPHC) offers exciting opportunities for achieving health impact in the population. In this session, we present four examples of lessons and achievements using CBPHC in four very different countries of the world: Bolivia, Haiti, India, and Mozambique. Three of the programs presented here have been in existence for 20 years or more. Presenters representing each of the four programs will draw on key lessons learned through their experiences with CBPHC.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to (1) Review basic elements of the CBPHC approach as applied in programs in four countries; (2) Describe the Care Group model and the results using this model in Mozambique; (3) Describe the contributions of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer to the health of the population it serves and define the key elements in its vision for the future; (4) Explain how equity, integration and empowerment have promoted impact and sustainability in the Jamkhed Project and how multi-sectoral approaches promote long-term health improvement; and (5) understand the importance of ownership and leadership for CBPHC programs in general and for CSRA’s programs in particular.
