This session will cover the impact of the President's Freedom Commission on public mental health, and how the system must move forward to implement suggestions in the report. The session will also specifically discuss the role of practice guidelines for the treatment of schizophrenia. The new updated schizophrenia guidelines will be presented, as well as recent data on the utility of atypical antipsychotic medications for the treatment of schizophrenia. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session participants will 1) understand the impact of the President's Freedom Commision on Mental Health, and the impact on the mental health system, 2) understand the role of evidence-based practices on the transformation of the mental health system, and 3) understand the current data on the utility of atypical antipsychotic medications. | |||
