A key role of infrastructure in public health is the ability to identify, track, and make meaningful interpretations of data. It is in this way that systems can be established and maintained to improve and protect public health. This session will showcase four environmental health demonstration projects. Topics addressed will include: (a) the hazards, exposures, and health effects that are important for environmental public health tracking, (b) the public health significance of these highlighted systems, (c) the challenges and opportunities for developing tracking/surveillance systems, (d) the concept of internet-based reporting surveillance activities, and (d) issues associated with linking health and environmental data.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be able to: 1) understand the need for environmental public health tracking and surveillance, 2) describe current activities to develop tracking and surveillance systems, 3)understand how data systems are useful.
