Building Effective Treatments: Understanding Battered Women's Response to Intimate Partner Violence
Developing effective public health interventions requires an empirical foundation for understanding battered women’s experience and the effects of violence on mental health. The presentations in this session will examine: (1) the mental health impact of living with the ongoing threat of intimate partner violence; (2) the influence of PTSD on battered women’s use of strategies for dealing with intimate partner violence; (3) the predictors of battered women’s use of violence; and (4) the association between violence and depression among women.
Learning Objectives: Develop an understanding of women's experiences with violence and abuse by an intimate parter; list the influences that post traumatic stress disorder has on battered women's use of strategies for dealing with intimate partner violence; examine the impact that living with the threat of intimate partner violence has on mental health.
