| Presenters in this session will examine epidemiologic measures and analysis of psychiatric disorders among racial and ethnic minorities and the elderly. The use of discordant analysis to improve survey assessments of psychiatric disorders will be examined. Additionally, the role of an individual’s perceptions of societal and environmental conditions in the development of psychiatric illness will be discussed. | |||
| Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Quantitate spectrum of depressive syndromes in long term care. 2. Acquire skills in evaluating survey assessments of psychiatric disorders. 3. Describe associations between acculturation or birthplace and PTSD symptoms among Latinas in Upstate New York. 4. Discuss the relationship between neighborhood conditions, perceptions of one’s neighborhood, and mental health outcomes. 5. Analyze the relationship between exposure to discrimination and health. | |||
