Integration of Oral Health and General Health
Oral health is integral to general health. Health care providers should contribute to enhancing oral health by including an oral examination as part of a general medical examination, advising patients in matters of tobacco cessation and diet, and referring patients to oral health practitioners for care. Educating health care professionals about oral health and utilizing a multidisciplinary approach will result in better general health outcomes.
Learning Objectives: 1. Identify barriers and facilitators to integrating oral health activities into primary care 2. Learn about strategies to educate primary care providers on oral health screening and preventive programs 3. Identify approaches to integrate oral health into primary care pediatrics.
