This session focuses on communiy interventions and social justice, specifically related to health and mental health. Two presentations examine how soical construction is related to racial and ethnic groups' ability to realize equitable access to early diagnosis and quality treatment. Another presention examines neighborhood organizations' influence on public goods and resources. It also examines the relationship between neighborhood organizational infrastructure and the health of its residents. Another presentation examines the socio-economic characteristics of the neighborhoods of community-based housing for persons with severe mental illness. The final presentation discusses the role of students working with a community-based organization in its attempt to educate residents regarding the impact of a hazardous waste business locating within the community. | |||
Learning Objectives: Attendees will understand observational epidemiologic and meta analysis studies providing practical evidence to steer research and social policies. Attendees will be able to identify neighborhood partners for community-based interventions. Attendees will be able to evaluate locational choices for research on community integration. Attendees will be able to conduct policy analysis and be able to advocate for community deployment and action. | |||
