3166.0: Monday, November 8, 2004: 12:30 PM-2:00 PM
Oral
Innovative Programs for Refugees and Immigrants
Many sessions sponsored by the Caucus on Refugee and Immigrant Health have described the special health risks and needs experienced by refugee and immigrant populations, and the social, cultural and institutional barriers that limit these populations’ access to health education and health care. This session will be devoted to presentations that describe innovative programs and policies to overcome barriers and address needs. Presentations will discuss both United States and international examples. Speakers will discuss the special concerns that led to the development of particular programs, as well as criteria for evaluating the success of interventions.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to 1. explain the challenges of program development to address health education and health care needs of refugee and immigrant populations; 2. list strategies that can increase the success of health interventions targeted for refugee and immigrant populations; 3. develop criteria to evaluate the success of program interventions for refugee and immigrant populations.
