Empowering Youth with Nutrition and Physical Activity
Given the dramatic increase in overweight among adolescents, it is important for this group to understand how to access healthy eating and physical activity. The purpose of this session is to identify how culture, race, and ethnicity affect eating and physical activity and to provide practical, interactive, hands-on techniques and activities to use with adolescents in community–based programs.
Learning Objectives: The learning objectives for this session are to: 1. Determine how cultural competence is important in planning and implementing adolescent nutrition and physical activity programs. 2.Conduct at least two nutrition and physical activity games/exercises with adolescents. 3.Specify strategies and approaches that will work in their communities. 4.Identify traditional and non-traditional partners in their own communities.
