Dental Workforce Issues
The ability of the current workforce to respond to the dental needs of the US population is compromised by a number of factors such as declining number of graduates from dental schools, ethnicity of provider does not match population composition, dentists tend to practice in urban and affluent areas, and others. These factors may affect the ability of the workforce to respond to the needs of vulnerable populations and call for the development of innovative approaches.
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand how dental hygienists can play a significant role in the health care delivery system. 2. Understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to improve access for underserved populations. 3. Learn about new approaches to deal with the dental workforce shortage issue.
