Recent kindergarten surveys indicate that between 30-40% of children entering kindergarten have a health or developmental condition that potentially interferes with their readiness to learn. With 70% of children under the age of 5 of working mothers being cared for in child care settings, child care represents a place where efforts can be focused on prevention and early detection of health and developmental conditions that impair a child's ability to enter school ready to learn. This session will discuss the role child care health consultants can play in promoting and protecting the health and safety of children in child care and discuss the assessment of social-emotional behavior in very young children. | |||
