This year’s Holmer N. Calver award lecturer is Ms. Carol M. Browner. Ms. Browner is a founding member of The Albright Group and former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for eight years. Prior to coming to EPA, she served as the Secretary of Florida’s Department of Environmental Regulation. Throughout her career, Ms. Browner has been guided by the philosophy that safeguarding the environment means protecting where we live and how we live our lives. It means protecting the health of our families and communities while growing the economy. It means providing Americans with real everyday benefits -- fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, safe food to eat, and revitalized communities. Ms. Browner worked closely with Congress to build broad bipartisan support to pass two pivotal modern environmental laws -- the landmark Food Quality Protection Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act. She also led the effort to strengthen national clean air standards and demonstrated her commitment to protecting children’s environmental health. Ms. Browner represented the United States in numerous international negotiations, including serving as the chair of the NAFTA US-Canada-Mexico Commission on Environmental Cooperation and host and chair of the 1998 G-8 Environment Ministers’ Meeting. Ms. Browner continues her leadership on critical public health and environmental issues as a guest lecturer across the country and through work with a number of leading public health and environmental organizations.
