Partnerships between community and public health are crucial to achieving environmental justice. After nearly a decade of community based partnerships with NIEHS, US/EPA, university academics and researchers, there is evidence that EJ partnerships based on community participation, community capacity building, and action have achieved results and is helping make our communities healthier. What lessons can be drawn? What key issues should be addressed when outlining mutually beneficial partnerships? What organizational commitments need to be made to assure accountability? This presentation will address these questions by drawing on experiences of the Asian Pacific Environmental Network, Southwest Network for Environmental Justice, and the Second National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit’s Principles of Working Together, working group.
