Rationale: In Africa, one in five deaths in under-fives is attributed to malaria. The CORE Malaria Working Group provides technical assistance and sharing of best practices through the support of networks and secretariats addressing national RBM programs. CORE member NGOs have found that c-IMCI framework works well to organize field activities addressing the Abuja RBM targets.

Methods: CORE members target selected African countries to strengthen NGO RBM collaboration. NGOs are mobilized through participation in Sub-regional/National “Fresh Air” Workshops and to share technical information and strategies for engaging communities in RBM. Workshop objectives include developing commitments for partnership and collaboration through the use of the c-IMCI framework

Results: • NGOs have established four national RBM secretariats • Non-traditional partners as well as private sector corporations are actively engaged in the collaboration • NGOs sit on the RBM Global Secretariat Board • Engaging in RMB activities has led to the integration with other c-IMCI activities • Inclusion of NGOs on national GFTAMT CCMs • IMCI framework has gained greater recognition at regional and global fronts through its application to RBM

Policy Implications: • MOH recognize the need for collaborating with NGOs to scale up RBM in the context of c-IMCI • Global RBM Secretariat recognition of the capacity of NGOs to integrate RBM using c-IMCI • Inclusion of RBM/IMCI activities in global priority-setting activities
