The goal of this presentation will be to explain the connections between public health indicators and workers' freedom to form unions, and to explore the reasons for these connections. In addition to being necessary from a human rights standpoint, protecting workers' freedom to form unions can also be expected to yield significant public health benefits. The struggle to protect workers' rights is therefore important to public health professionals. Ways will be suggested for public health professionals to participate in this struggle -- including supporting the Employee Free Choice Act.
