Dr. George Eadon will describe the vision New York State has developed for using biomonitoring as a public health tool. New York was recently awarded a Centers for Disease Control laboratory-enhancement grant for the purposes of biomonitoring. Dr. Eadon's work has been key to the development of this grant, which has included substantial input from health professionals, public health officials and community groups. Dr. Eadon will present the goals and objectives of ongoing and future New York State biomonitoring projects and will discuss his sense of the most effective use of biomonitoring as a public health tool.

Learning Objectives:

• 1. Learn about the main research goals incorporated in the New York State biomonitoring project from a leading state authority who is heading up implementation of the CDC-supported laboratory-enhancement grant.
• 2. Learn how New York State is designing its study to include health professional and community input, and how this input will shape the course of biomonitoring in NYState.
• 3. Learn how the resulting data may affect New York State public health policy, based on new information from biomonitoring that may help identify vulnerable populations, support ongoing analysis of chemical trends, and suggest a re-evaluation of the effectiveness of current public health regulations.
