EXPORT (Excellence in Partnerships for Community Outreach, and Research on Disparities in Health and Training) Health is a $6M program project grant awarded by the NIH to the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Minority Health, in the Graduate School of Public Health. EXPORT Health is an interdisciplinary project aimed at strengthening the University of Pittsburgh’s research and training infrastructure for the study and elimination of racial and ethnic minority health disparities. EXPORT Health is divided into “Cores”, each of which attacks a different aspect of the problem of minority health disparities. The EXPORT Health Cores are: Administrative, Training, Minority Health and Health Disparities Education, Pilot Projects and Feasibility Studies, Shared Resources, Community Outreach and Information Dissemination, and four associated Research Cores: HIV/AIDS, Immunization and Pneumonia Disparities, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention, and Cancer Screening and Management. The Administrative Core coordinates and ensures quality control over all EXPORT Health activities. The Community Outreach and Information Dissemination Core seeks to build upon the Center for Minority Health’s existing network of community partners to integrate EXPORT Health into ongoing outreach and health promotion activities. Using a community-based participatory research approach, the Administrative Core and the COID Core seek to translate EXPORT Health research findings into usable public health interventions. EXPORT Health operates at the juncture of public health research and real-life disease prevention and health promotion. The proposed session will discuss how the EXPORT Health leadership is building a model of public health research, partnership and collaboration to eliminate minority health disparities.
