“Health for All” The Primary Health Care slogan of 1978, set at the Alma Ata World Health Organization meeting, is one of the constant themes of the People's Health Movement. The seeds that were planted in 1978 are not so healthy throughout the world via national governments. The grassroots organization of The People's Health Movement has become a leader in making sure that the lessons which were learned during the first 25 years of implementing PHC throughout the world are not lost but cared-for and nourished. This presentation will be based on the lessons learned via the PHC movement as realized in five African countries, Philippines, India, and the United States, through the experience of Medical Mission Sisters. It will provide experiences from this international and intercultural group of health professionals on why the PHC strategy works. It will set the stage for why the People’s Health Movement continues to build on this PHC foundation to have the civic society consensus needed to change health care systems and make them responsive to the people they are trying to serve.

Learning Objectives:

• 1.) Describe lessons learned via the PHC movement as realized in five African countries, Philippines, India, and the United States.
• 2.) Articulate the reasons that primary health care is still a priority 25 years later.
