Climate change will be the most pressing health issue of our time. Health effects in the US will be numerous. Examples range from increased frequency of inversion layers which traps air pollution in the lower atmosphere to shifting ecotones (changing habitat location or elevation) bringing established infectious diseases into previously unexposed populations. Populations at the margins will be disproportionately affected. In order for health professionals to manage, prevent and possibly help advocate policies to reduce climate change impacts, it is imperative to understand the health implications. This presentation will outline the health effects of climate change and provide examples in New Haven, Connecticut.
