Little training or public information is available to parents or rehabilitation therapists on the devices available to protect CSHCN in motor vehicles. To address the need for information and training, the Injury Prevention Center (IPC) at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) developed, implemented and evaluated an online training regarding child passenger safety for CSHCN targeted at rehabilitation therapists. Over 1,000 rehabilitation therapists registered to participate in the self-paced eleven lesson online course. While there is a body of knowledge available on the development, use and effectiveness of online education, little information is available regarding the management of such courses. Through the development and implementation of this course, the Safe Transport project management team learned important lessons regarding the time, effort, skills, knowledge and systems necessary to successfully launch and manage an online course. This information will provide valuable advice to other organizations considering online instruction.
