Several Harvard Medical School (HMS) programs are in place to enhance underrepresented minority (URM) faculty development and research in minority health and health disparities. Four examples of these programs are the Center of Excellence (COE) in Minority Health and Health Disparities Faculty Fellowship, its Research in Minority Health Seminar Series, the Bridge Awards Program, and the Commonwealth Fund Harvard University Fellowship (CFHUF) Seminars in Minority Health Policy. The COE Faculty Fellowship is a comprehensive fellowship program that provides training and support for exceptional HMS URM junior faculty, with an emphasis on minority health and/or health disparities. The COE Research in Minority Health Seminar Series offers training in pedagogical and research methods and is presented by HMS faculty who are currently engaged in minority health practice and/or health disparities research. The Bridge Awards are granted to individuals requiring supplemental funds to complete novel research projects or to provide salary support for principal investigators or their key laboratory/research personnel during a lapse in research funding, or while awaiting confirmation of external research funds. Bridge Awards are merit-based and provide up to $10,000 of support for recipients. The CFHUF Seminars in Minority Health Policy allows students interested in minority health policy to interact directly with key local and leaders from both private and public sectors, which aids in their development of leadership skills essential to effectively perform in the areas of public health practice and public policy, with a specific focus on minority health policy.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to

• Identify the needs of faculty of color and address them by offering programs geared toward their career enhancement
• Observe an effective model on leadership and career enhancement for faculty of color in an academic medicine institution
