CDC has a critical role in protecting the health and safety of people ; collecting and communicating credible information to enhance health decisions; and promoting health through strong partnerships in order to put science into action to tackle important health issues– at home and abroad,.
The Guide to Community Preventive Services (Community Guide) illustrates scientific principles that underlie all of CDC’s efforts: rigorous investigation and analysis, a population-based perspective, and collaborative work throughout the development, dissemination, and application of findings. New approaches to applying methodologic rigor to complex community interventions has been a major contribution of the Community Guide and provides results that are both credible and easily applied – to both practice and research. This will be especially important for future research looking at interventions addressing the social environment such as culturally competent care.
This initiative also helps answer the questions of “so what?” How will this work improve population health? The Community Guide provide recommendations and conclusions that contribute to further practice and research and provides an important tool in CDC’s efforts to translate public health science into effective public health practice and policy that can be used by our customers, stakeholders and partners.
