Diverse organizations sharing a common goal have the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of children and young people throughout the country. This panel of national health and education associations will highlight the successes and the challenges they have faced in implementing these broad-based health programs. You will hear about school superintendent implementation of policies that improve school facilities and that facilitate effective management the of asthma in their districts; pediatrician- focused training programs which encourage them to incorporate school health concepts with current asthma treatment guidelines; campus-based youth engagement in the prevention of HIV/AIDS ; community-based initiatives which target asthma coalitions and lung associations in the development of comprehensive asthma management plans; and the development of educational materials that take advantage of the new technology and aim to empower youth and their families with knowledge to help them control chronic conditions. Panelists will include representatives from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association of School Administrators, the American Lung Association, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, and the Starbright Foundation.
