A Public Health Team was established to work in collaboration with adult day care providers to implement the Adult Day Care Curriculum Project. The assessment utilized a population-based approach based on the projected increase of the elderly population in Los Angeles County. By 2040, there will be a 19.4% increase, with an estimated 2,689,573 seniors, resulting in an increased need for safe and healthy day care services. Outcome Objective is: By January, 2010, there will be a 10% increase in the numbers of adult day care centers providing safe and healthy environments in SPA 2. Nursing Diagnoses include: Lack of Sufficient Adult Respite Care and Lack of Sufficient Knowledge Regarding Safe and Healthy Practices in Adult Day Care Environments in SPA 2. The Intermediate Objective was: After exposure to the Adult Day Care Curriculum, participating day care staff and caregivers will increase their knowledge about safe and healthy daycare and home environments by 50%. The Process Objective was: By January 2005, the SPA 2 Public Health Team will implement the Adult Day Care Curriculum in 25 adult day cares in SPA 2. Initial evaluation tools are the pre- and post-intervention questionnaires that will validate the effectiveness of the curriculum. The final evaluation will be determined in January 2010, when the number of adult day cares is increased in SPA 2 by 10% and OSHA requirements are met by these facilities.
