The interest in daily life is an important factor for planning programs of independent living for elderly people adequately.In our previous study, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 6,000 individuals all over Japan aged 65 years and over. We showed the interests of elderly people are consisted of 4 subscales with 16 items extracted by principal component analysis. Four subscales are defined as "to live with good communication", "to achieve one's purpose", "to live socially", and "to live comfortably". Although this scale seems to be useful to detect their interests, calculating or interpreting scores takes time and much effort even by a skillful manipulator. With this reason, we invented user-friendly scoring software which allows anyone to evaluate interests of elderly people with ease. Special features of this software developed using Microsoft visual basic are as follows : 1) Elderly people can answer the survey directly on PC and the data can be stored immediately into database. 2) The score of each 4 subscales is calculated applying range from 0 to 100 metric. 3) The mean and standard deviation according to sex and age are calculated of whole subjects. 4) Several graphs comparing the data with the one of Japanese standard can be showed. Up to the present, we distributed this software to 3,200 municipalities all over Japan. In addition, it has already translated into English. We expect that this software would contribute towards promoting the QOL of elderly people not only in Japan but also in various countries.
