Since 1994, the Reproductive Health Projects (RHPs), a partnership between three international organizations (Pathfinder International, EngenderHealth and Ipas) and The Ministry of Health, has worked to improve the quality and range of reproductive health services in Viet Nam. Enhanced supervision skills are a critical means to promote and sustain quality reproductive health services in Viet Nam.
Over more than four years, the RHPs has trained trainers and supervisors in eight provinces to use integrated supervision for quality of care (IS/QoC) as an effective tool to support improvements in the quality of reproductive health care; to create a dynamic and positive environment to share ideas and concerns between staff, supervisors and leaders. Grounded in concepts of client rights, adult learning and change management, use of the IS/QoC approach within the MCH/FP network of the Ministry of Health has resulted in some important changes in quality of services, and the sustainability of reproductive health programming in Viet Nam.
Data from province and district levels showing changes in client satisfaction, method mix, post-abortion contraceptive utilization and other indicators will be shared. In addition, significant qualitative changes in management and supervision practices, and the organization of services will be presented.
Finally, the presentation will explore the challenge of sustaining and replicating the IS/QoC approach in Viet Nam, in collaboration with provincial and central Ministry partners.
