Major progress is being made in developing quality improvement strategies at the national level in the mental health field. The field has agreed upon common performance measures (Carter Center Forum); State Mental Health Agencies have adopted a set of performance measures (Uniform Reporting System); and a consumer survey is online for use anytime to assess care (MHSIP Consumer Survey). An online outcomes system is under development (DS2K+ Outcomes System), and the information technology to drive each of these tools is available in prototype form through the Decision Support 2000+ Initiative. This presentation will provide operational knowledge of each of these systems, and locate them within the national mental health information strategy.
