The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) have been working to encourage collaborations between ob-gyns, state and other community-based organizations to enhance women’s psychosocial health in a variety of targeted areas. Ob-gyns can play an essential role in addressing issues such as stress, domestic violence, depression, and substance abuse that negatively affect the health and wellness of women across their lifespan, including during pregnancy. But these multifaceted issues can only be addressed broad based partnership teams. These system’s level partnerships between the clinician and the community, focused on a particular women’s health issue, have been successful in raising awareness of the issue for the public, provider and legislature. Each partnership has identified areas of need and gaps in services as well as the resources available from partnership members, potential members and sources known to participants. And, working in concert, the partnership teams have and are putting into action creative solutions to these multifaceted issues without burdening the resources of any one partner. To date, 28 state-level and 2 metro-level partnership teams have formed in 19 states.

In this presentation, the participant will: 1. Identify the components of successful partnership teams 2. Discover the accomplishments of some current teams 3. Identify potential partners for teams 4. Learn strategies for maintaining healthy clinician-chaired partnership teams.

This successful partnership model is now being utilized in the development of 2 teams focused on perinatal oral health.
