This presentation will describe development of a resource manual for use by members of the Healthy Environments Partnership (HEP) using a participatory process. The resource manual is a comprehensive compilation of information related to the HEP, a community-based participatory research project designed to enhance understanding of factors in the social and physical environments that influence risk of cardiovascular disease among Detroit residents. The manual was developed as part of the project plan to disseminate study findings that both inform and engage community residents and policy makers in dialogue about the relationship between social and physical environments and cardiovascular disease. The manual serves as a reference guide and training tool to prepare all members of the Partnership to participate in the dissemination of information related to social and physical environments and their contributions to cardiovascular disease. The presentation will describe the participatory process used to develop the manual, outline the manual contents, and discuss the application of the manual as both a training and reference guide for members of the Partnership. Finally, we will discuss the usefulness of developing resource manuals in other CBPR Partnerships.
