This training and skills building presentation will provide a framework on the challenges of caregiving in gerontological, mental health,HIV/AIDS and bereavement programs for elderly individuals living with HIV/AIDS and the issues surrounding patient and palliative care. Modules will assist professionals to desensitize their own attitudes and prejudices about HIV/AIDS, assess and strategize to utilize multidisciplinary clinical tools to best serve their HIV-infected elderly patients, network with other service providers, and maximally sustain their self-care and wellness systems.

Learning Objectives:

• Identify the challenges faced by caregivers who work primarily with elderly individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
• Understand the needs and types of mental health and social services necessary to provide comprehensive care to older adults living with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers.
• Provide a framework of supportive strategies and service interventions which can sustain caregivers in their work with the elderly living with HIV/AIDS.
