Innovative Topic - Issues in Water Safety and Quality
This poster session provides an overview of several issues surrounding the safety and quality of both potable and recreational waters. Among the issues being presented are: several studies of the threat and level of environmental contamination of the water supply, as well as studies which look at the public's percieved risk to their health from both contaminated waters and from consuming fish caught in unsafe waters. This session also provides several examples of initiatives designed to reduce the risk of exposure to contaminated drinking water, as well as the risk of exposure to environmental contaminants in recreational waters.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session participants will be able to: 1) Describe the percieved level of risk associated with water quality in several communities 2) Describe the actual level of risk of exposure to contaminated well water, as well as fresh and marine recreational waters. 3) Describe several initiatives designed to improve the overall safety of both potable and recreational waters
