Achieving universal healthcare: What are the states doing?
The purpose of this session is to describe the current status of activities under way at the state level to achieve universal healthcare. The session will compare the advantages and disadvantages of single-payer and pay-or-play strategies to achieve universal healthcare, focusing on legislation now going through the California legislature.
Learning Objectives: 1. Review activities occurring within states to achieve universal healthcare. 2. Identify differences between single-payer and pay-or-play strategies for achieving universal healthcare. 3. Compare differences between the single-payer and pay-or-play legislation introduced in the 2003 California legislative session.
