| In FY 2001, the federal Center for Mental Health Services of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (CSAP/SAMHSA) initiated a cooperative agreement to address unmet mental health treatment needs of HIV positive individuals from communities of color. The focus of the initiative is: (1) assist community based mental health centers and programs providing services to HIV positive individuals to either expand or enhance mental health treatment, (2) ensure cultural components are incorporated into the treatment process and psychotherapy models and (3) encourage consumer input in the development of mental health services. This session examines how cultural competence has been integrated into the Mental Health HIV Services Collaborative Program and, through a separate statewide initiative, into programs of the State of Ohio. | |||
