Presenters will focus on hospital practices and innovations that promote and support breastfeeding, including implementing the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the U.S., developing and implementing a breastfeeding curriculum for resident physicians, and assessing the motivations and perceptions of diverse mothers of pre-term/low-birth-weight infants related to infant feeding. The impact of improved hospital practices related to breastfeeding on breastfeeding rates in full-term and pre-term infants will be addressed. An additional focus will be the relationship between dose of mother's milk and selected outcomes for very-low-birth-weight infants. Collectively these papers describe means for reaching the Healthy People 2010 breastfeeding objectives and for examining benefits associated with increased breastfeeding. | |||
