Public hospitals are highly dependent upon financial support at the federal, state and local levels. In times of economic downturns, the financial support (tax levy, state Medicaid, and federal Medicaid and Medicare) are increasingly at risk. Ironically, it is during these times that the demand for the safety net is greatest. Collaborations among the public hospitals/safety net institutions, consumers, public health advocates, faith-based organizations, etc., ensures the strongest possible voice of advocacy. | |||
