Abstract #74887

Causes and consequences of being uninsured

Ron Pollock, Families USA, 1334 G St., NW, Washington, DC 20005, 202-628-3030, info@familiesusa.org

The number of individuals who lack health insurance in the United States is over 40 million, and there are millions more with inadequate coverage. Those who lack adequate health insurance suffer from a diminished health status, and the delivery system is weakened from the costs of providing episodic care in emergency departments to these individuals.
