This presentation will examine inadequate government policies and regulations concerning the education, career opportunities, and working conditions of nursing personnel in Middle EAstern and South Asian countries that greatly impact the health of their people. The consequences are often shortages of graduates and teachers, poorly equipped and sub-standard schools, and nurses with little clinical experiences. This situation results in inadquate coverage for maternal and child health care, causing high maternal and infant mortality rates. In addition, few laws or enforcement are avaialble when vilence against female health workers occurs.

Learning Objectives:

• Examine inadequate government policies and regulations concerning the education, career opportunities and working conditions of nursing personnel in Middle Eastern and South Asian contries
• Discuss the impact of nursing under these conditions on the health of the people these nurses serve.
