The WHO Health in prisons Project was established in 1995 and has about 18 countries of Europe working together to develop consensus statements on priority issues and to exchange experience on what works. The project has published consensus statements on mental health promotion and this year has published "Prisons, Drugs and Society", a report produced in partnership with the Council of Europe and which has been widely circulated already.
