Henrick Harwood, Deepti Malhotra, MPH, and Christel Villarivera, MS. The Lewin Group, Inc, 3130 Fairview Park Drive, Suite 800, Falls Church, VA 22042, 703-269-5635, hjharwood@lewin.com

The Center on Substance Abuse Treatment has funded 10 adolescent programs across the nation to perform rigorous assessments of their outcomes as well as costs and benefits. The providers were selected for the study based on competitive applications, and they have each developed detailed manuals describing their respective treatment approaches which should enable other sites to implement/replicate their treatment models. The evaluation has acquired some of the most detailed cost data ever collected for adolescent substance abuse treatment, and the outcome study has achieved very high rates of client follow-up using the GAIN standardized data collection instrument. This presentation will give the first results from the cost effectiveness and cost analysis, describing the expenses of different levels/modalities of care in detail, and examining the cost per successful client outcome using several important alternative outcome measures.
