Abstract #73911

Relationship Between the Type and Levels of Nurse Staffing and Burnout

Lorraine Thiebaud, RN, Service Employees International Union Nurse Alliance, 2214 Prince Street, Berkeley, CA 94705, 510 548 1380, lthiebaud@attbi.com

An insuffecient nursing pool is jeopardizing the quality of care that patients receive. There are insufficient nurses to do what needs to be done on any given shift. This presentation will provide the perspective of the Service Employees International Union's Nurse Alliance with regard to the type and levels of nurse staffing and nurse burnout. There will be an emphasis on the impacts of the increasing utilization of temporary nurse staffing and a discussion of nurse burnout.
