This paper will discuss the multitude of steps that have been taken to eliminate the sale of tobacco products in pharmacies and all licensed health care facilities.
As a non-profit community pharmacy oriented public health foundation, Pharmacists Planning Service, Inc. (PPSI) has long favored elimination of tobacco products in pharmacies. It makes no sense for licensed health care facilities to sell tobacco. Doing so is counterproductive and disingenuous. PPSI believes that now is an opportune time to take action because the public is becoming ever more aware of the hazards of tobacco and more attuned to the apparent hypocrisy of permitting sale of these deadly tobacco products in licensed health care facilities.
Will pharmacists rise to the occasion? The solution lies in getting down to what needs to be done and accomplishing those tasks. It can be done, it must be done. It is time for action!
