SESSION ABSTRACT - ASPIRE: A CD-ROM-based smoking prevention and cessation curriculum for urban youth

ASPIRE is an interactive, multimedia smoking prevention and cessation CD_ROM based on the Transtheoretical Model of Change. ASPIRE will be evaluated in a randomized controlled trial of 16 urban highschools. The baseline sample (n=1,447) consisted of 57.5% Hispanics, 35.4% African Americans, and 3.4% Caucasians. This 90 minute session is composed of several presentations which will provide the background theory and rationale for the program, lessons learned during development and initial implementation, and several reports from the baseline survey. Each presentation will last 10 minutes.
